Unsettled weather to target northwestern India through the weekend

By Renee Duff, AccuWeather meteorologist

Locations across northwestern India will be subject to rounds of showers and thunderstorms through this weekend.
Widely separated showers and thunderstorms will blossom in West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh through this weekend, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Jason Nicholls.
The stormiest periods will be during the afternoon and evening hours each day through Sunday.
In addition to bringing the danger of frequent lightning strikes, the storms will bring sudden torrential downpours that reduce visibility for motorists.
Those traveling on the roadways should lower their speeds to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
India 3.14

Anyone outdoors when the storms strike should head inside immediately after the first clap of thunder or stroke of lightning.
The storms will stay to the south and east of the National Capital Region, where stagnant air will prolong hazy conditions and poor air quality.

There may be another storm system that brings some rain to northwestern India around Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, according to Nicholls.
A drier pattern is then expected to unfold across the region for the latter part of next week, with heat possibly building farther south.
"I think heat will gradually build across southern India and expand into central parts of the country late next week and continue into the last week of March," Nicholls said.
Nicholls stated that it may take much longer for heat to build northward into New Delhi given the wet pattern the city experienced in late winter.
New Delhi recorded 133 percent of its normal January rainfall and 260 percent of its normal February rainfall.
