November Temperature Outlook Is Warmer Than Average In Much Of US

November could flip back to a milder temperature pattern in the western two-thirds of the country following an ongoing cold snap in many of the same areas, according to an updated outlook released Saturday by The Weather Company, an IBM Business, and Atmospheric G2.

Warmer-than-average temperatures are most likely in the Midwest, Plains and West: An area from Montana and the Dakotas to parts of the Nevada, Utah and Arizona could have the warmest temperatures when compared to November's average.

Much of the Midwest, as well as other parts of the Plains and West, are also favored to be above average.

Much of the East could see near-average temperatures: November will begin with a blast of colder-than-average air in much of the East, but there is some uncertainty for what to expect the rest of the month.

"There is a little skepticism about how fast the warmup will occur in the East, given recent model trends, so while we’ve made notable changes to the forecast, there still may be some further cold risk in the East," said Dr. Todd Crawford, Vice President of Meteorology at Atmospheric G2.

The nation's corners could have a wet month as the Midwest trends dry: Florida and the Pacific Northwest are the most favored areas for wetter-than-average conditions in November.

Florida usually has wetter-than-average winters during El Niño, so the potential for a wet November might be a harbinger for what to expect the next few months.

Areas from the Central Plains to the Great Lakes have the highest chance of below-average precipitation. That could worsen ongoing drought conditions in parts of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri, as well as in portions of other neighboring states.
