As of late Sunday afternoon, this storm has produced snowfall totals of 6 inches or more in spots from west-central Texas to areas southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth. Snowfall has also blanketed parts of the Interstate 35 corridor from near Dallas-Fort Worth southward to near Austin, and the Interstate 45 corridor from near Dallas to northwest of Houston.

Here are a few totals from the state as of Sunday afternoon: Abilene (6 inches), Lubbock (4 to 6 inches), and Waco (3 to 5 inches).

The heavy, wet nature of the snow has also snapped tree branches in some locations south of Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered power outages have occurred in this area, according to poweroutage.us.

Areas that could see snow or a mix of rain and snow will generally be near and either side of the Interstate 20 corridor from eastern Texas to Shreveport, Louisiana, and near or north of Jackson, Mississippi. Snow will also reach northern Alabama and southern Tennessee overnight.

Rain is expected farther south toward the Gulf Coast and as far east as Alabama. However, areas just northwest of Houston could see rain mix with snow as colder air arrives.

Monday

Snowfall is expected through the first part of Monday from the lower Mississippi Valley into parts of the Tennessee Valley and the southern Appalachians.

This storm will weaken the farther east it tracks. Therefore, much of the snowfall will be over with by later Monday, but rain could linger in parts of the Southeast.

How Much Additional Snow?

A broad area from east Texas into northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas and northern and central Mississippi will see 1 to 3 inches of snowfall Sunday night into Monday. Localized heavier totals up to 5 inches are possible in a narrower corridor.

These accumulations will likely lead to slippery travel, particularly on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses.

Accumulations in the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians will be much lighter on Monday, but could still be enough for slippery travel.
