Two Storms Will Keep the Midwest, East Wet Before Thanksgiving

A pair of storm systems will keep things on the wetter side before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Both systems will lack an abundance of cold air, meaning more rain than snow is expected for most spots through the holiday week.

The first of these storm systems is beginning to take shape in the Ohio Valley and Ozarks along a remnant frontal boundary.

By Sunday night, this first storm system is expected to be in the Northeast.

Light to moderate rain is expected from the Northeast to the mid-Atlantic and the Tennessee Valley. A few snow flurries may mix in across the interior northeast and south and east of the Great Lakes.

The second storm system will begin to take shape by Monday in the Rockies.

A few flurries are expected to kick up in Colorado on Monday, then widespread rain showers are expected from eastern South Dakota and southern Minnesota southward to central Texas by Monday night.

On Tuesday, this system will nudge into the Midwest and the Mississippi Valley.

Snow showers are expected on the northern side of this system from northern Minnesota to Michigan, with some heavier snow possible in Wisconsin.

On the southern side, a few strong thunderstorms are possible in eastern Oklahoma, western Missouri, western Arkansas, and perhaps, further south into Texas and Louisiana, on Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

Rain will be most widespread on Thanksgiving Eve, stretching from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.

A few thunderstorms are possible in the South late in the day if there's enough daytime heating.

On the northern side, a few snow flurries are possible from Iowa and northern Michigan to northern New England. Temperatures may be warm enough in Iowa to keep snow from sticking.

This storm system will continue to produce showers along the East Coast into Thanksgiving, but will gradually become less widespread by late on the holiday.

Rain and Snow Forecast

As we mentioned before, these two systems will bring mostly rainfall, but parts of Wisconsin or Michigan could pick up some heavier snow on Tuesday. Parts of Colorado could also pick up some significant snowfall.

There are currently no flood concerns with either of these storm systems, but more than an inch of rain could fall from the mid-Mississippi Valley to the southern Great Lakes.
