The U.S. was impacted by 10 billion-dollar weather disasters in the first half of 2020, according to a report released Wednesday by NOAA.

All of the billion-dollar weather disasters from January through June happened east of the Rocky Mountains. Severe thunderstorms, packing destructive winds, large hail and tornadoes, have been the culprit for a majority of the damage cost.

Since 1980, the most billion-dollar weather disasters to affect the U.S. in the first six months of the year was 11 set in 2017. Before 2020, only two other years – 2011 and 2016 – had as many as 10 billion-dollar weather disasters through June, according to NOAA.

The combined price tag of the weather disasters so far this year is $17.6 billion. There have been 80 deaths attributed to these events.

From 1980 through June of this year, 273 weather and climate disasters have tallied overall damage costs that reached or exceeded $1 billion, including adjustments for inflation. Nearly 46% of those disasters have been caused by severe thunderstorm events.

Here's a brief look at when and where this year's billion-dollar weather disasters occurred.

Jan. 10-12: Southeast tornadoes and Northern storms and flooding ($1.1 billion, 10 killed)

Feb. 5-7: South, East and Northeast severe weather ($1.2 billion, 3 killed)

March 2-4: Tennessee tornadoes and Southeast severe weather ($2 billion, 25 killed)
