Feisty thunderstorms will threaten parts of the Arabian Peninsula with flash flooding and strong winds gusts to start the week.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the day on Monday as a system tracks across the region. The strongest storms are expected to develop through the afternoon hours.
These storms will threaten areas from central Saudi Arabia to western Yemen into evening hours.
A couple storms are forecast to reach Qatar through the overnight hours, but are not expected to be as heavy as storms to the north and west.
The threat for strong storms will shift on Tuesday as the system continues to advance.
Heavy thunderstorms can develop once again across central Saudi Arabia Tuesday afternoon and evening. A couple of storms can drift far enough north to bring impacts to extreme southern Iraq and Kuwait.
Thunderstorms will threaten these areas with flooding downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes.
"Normally dry rivers and streams can quickly swell with water and can catch people off guard. Given that some of this heavy rain will fall at night makes the situation even more dangerous," stated AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Adam Douty.

"People are urged never to drive through flooded roadways. It can be difficult to tell how deep the water is and if the roadway is damaged or potentially washed-out entirely," he added.
The strongest storms can produce winds strong enough to knock over trees and cause power outages. Any gusty winds whipping through dry areas ahead of storms can create dust storms that drastically lower visibility.
Occasional showers and thunderstorms are forecast to continue in western Yemen through the middle of the week; otherwise, dry and mainly sunny conditions are expected to return to the Arabian Peninsula.
