Schools were canceled or delayed in several states and authorities warned of potentially hazardous travel Friday as a winter storm continued to push eastward across the Midwest and Northeast.
The Ohio Department of Transportation deployed more than 1,200 road crews early Friday morning. Officials in the Akron area said they were responding to several accidents in the icy roads and blowing snow.
In Virginia, snow was falling Friday morning in Tazewell County, where a flash flood emergency was declared the day before.

The storm also wreaked havoc on travel in some areas Thursday.
Authorities in the Boston area and other parts of Massachusetts reported a number of spinouts and accidents Thursday morning.

Schools were canceled or delayed in many areas, including parts of Indiana, Ohio, Massachusetts, New Hampshire.
The storm had previously dumped snow and snarled travel as it moved across Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and other states.
Missouri state police said they responded to 203 calls for service Wednesday, including 58 crashes and 85 stranded motorists. Twelve people were injured.
On Wednesday afternoon, a portion of Interstate 70 in Central Missouri was shut down after a multivehicle crash in slippery conditions.
The westbound lanes of I-70 at the Missouri River Bridge in Rocheport opened later in the evening. The closure was expected to continue for several hours, the Missouri Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted photos that showed a damaged semi truck and other vehicles on the bridge.

Officials in Oklahoma had earlier warned of hazardous travel conditions because of the winter storm, which was named Kade by The Weather Channel.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said roads were slippery in some areas early Wednesday morning.

About 9,000 customers were without power around Edmund, Oklahoma City and Norman early Wednesday morning, according to KFOR.
Dozens of school districts and other facilities were closed, including Oklahoma City Public Schools, the University of Oklahoma-Norman Campus and Western Oklahoma State College.
Several districts in Missouri also canceled classes, including Columbia Public Schools, and school closures were also announced in Texas.
Schools were closed around Kansas City, Missouri, but not because of weather. Classes were canceled to allow students and staff to attend the parade to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs' recent Super Bowl victory, the Kansas City Star reported.
Some airlines were waiving change fees at several airports in anticipation of delays or cancellations. Southwest Airlines, for example, waived change fees for passengers traveling through Texas airports in Amarillo, Lubbock, Dallas and Midland/Odessa, as well as Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Indianapolis, Chicago and St. Louis.
