A deadly avalanche roared down the mountainside near Lake Tahoe, California, on Friday, just one day after heavy snow blanketed the High Sierra.
The avalanche was first reported late Friday morning by the Placer Sheriff at Alpine Meadows, located just west of Lake Tahoe.
At least one fatality has been confirmed by the Placer Sheriff with another person seriously injured. Initially, others were feared to be missing, but search crews and avalanche dogs responding to the incident confirmed that there were no others involved.

There was a considerable avalanche danger across this part of the Sierras, according to the Sierra Avalanche Center.
The combination of strong winds and roughly 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow have contributed to the elevated avalanche risk above and below the treeline.
People across the region should continue to use caution for additional avalanches through the weekend.
