After a period of seasonally dry weather across India, some wet weather will return during the last full week of December.
An area of high pressure that has been promoting dry weather across the region is forecast to begin to shift east this week bringing a change in the weather pattern.
Winds will gradually turn out of the south and southwest, bringing increased moisture farther north over the eastern Arabian Sea and southern India.
Meanwhile, a storm system moving through the Middle East this weekend will be approaching northern India through early week. This will aid in drawing moisture farther north across the region.
Through the middle of the week, this system is forecast to sink south into northern and central India. Here, the system will be able to tap into the moisture that has been filtering northward, creating areas of showers.
While daily showers and thunderstorms will continue in Sri Lanka, showers will spread to Kerala and Karnataka on Tuesday.
By Wednesday, the storm will expand showers into Maharashtra and parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Showers are expected to continue at times across these areas on Thursday, while also spreading as far eastward as western Bangladesh.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible during the middle of the week, especially in Kerala and Karnataka; however, most locations will only receive showers.
This rainfall will be welcome as it increases soil moisture and brings some relief to the haze and poor air quality that has been plaguing parts of the country in recent weeks.
Wet weather is expected to linger along the southwestern coast and into central India through the end of the week.
