A pair of tropical systems across the Philippine Sea will bring the risk for flooding to parts of the Philippines into next week.
One tropical disturbance is located just to the east of the southern Philippines and will bring heavy rain to the country over the weekend.
The second disturbance is located to the east of Palau. This system may develop into a tropical storm prior to reaching the Philippines early next week.
As of Friday afternoon, local time, the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration called this disturbance a tropical depression.
If this threat becomes a tropical storm it will be given the name Phanfone by the Japan Meteorological Agency. In the Philippines, the storm would be known as Ursula.

Through the weekend, this disturbance will continue to bring heavy rainfall to the southern Philippines, especially in eastern Mindanao, where there can be 75-150 mm (3-6 inches). An AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 300 mm (12 inches) is expected. The remainder of Mindanao can expect rainfall of 25-75 mm (1-3 inches).
At the same time, Palau will be at risk for daily showers and thunderstorms with downpours capable of producing localized flooding as the second tropical disturbance passes nearby.
The risk for heavy rainfall across Mindanao may cause further issues for areas still recovering from a deadly 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the region on Dec.14.
Widespread travel disruptions could occur due to the risk of significant flooding through Sunday. There will also be an increased risk for mudslides during this time.
Locations across southern Visayas, including Cebu, will be at risk for 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) of rainfall through Sunday with up to 200 mm (8 inches) in Bohol, Leyte and southern Cebu.

This first tropical threat will depart the Philippines by later on Sunday.
No break in the stormy weather is expected across the central and southern Philippines as a second tropical threat will bring a chance for flooding to parts of the Philippines next week.
A cluster of showers and thunderstorms currently located to the south of Guam and east of Palau will track westward in the coming days.
Development into a tropical depression or named tropical storm will be possible from this weekend into early next week as the storm tracks near or just north of Palau.
A continued west to northwest track will take this second tropical threat toward the Philippines during the first half of next week.
Visayas and northeast Mindanao will again be at risk for multiple days of locally heavy rainfall which may result in travel disruptions and flooding problems. The threat for heavy rain may extend as far north at southern Luzon.
Impacts from the storm may spread across the remainder of the central Philippines during the middle of next week.
It remains possible that this system develops into a tropical storm. As a result, residents will have to be alert for potentially damaging wind as the storm passes across the country.
