Dry conditions will help ring in New Year's Eve festivities in 5 of the world's biggest cities

As revelers gear up for New Year's Eve, here's what the weather may look like for five of the most spectacular celebrations around the world.

Sydney

Sydney's New Year's Eve festivities include an air display, ship light parade and lighting effects on the Sydney Harbour Bridge prior to the city's fabulous display of pyrotechnics as the clock strikes midnight.
Excessively hot, dry and windy weather will require anyone in southeastern Australia to use extreme caution when setting off fireworks on Tuesday evening. Even the smallest spark falling on dry ground can light an inferno.
Sydney's location on the water will limit the potential of fireworks sparking blazes, and the gusty winds will be beneficial in helping to disperse smoke and provide revelers with better viewing conditions.
Temperatures will be near 21 C (70 F) as the fireworks begin underneath a mostly cloudy sky.

Berlin

Berlin hosts one of Europe's biggest street parties to ring in the new year. The festivities take place along a 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) stretch from Bradenburg Gate to Victory Column.
"Dry weather can be expected for festivities in Berlin," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Edwards said. "With clouds leaving the area by late Tuesday evening, there should be ideal viewing conditions for fireworks as well."
Partyers will want to don an extra layer or two as temperatures will dip to 3-4 C (upper 30s F). A brisk wind will make it feel even colder, with AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures dropping to near minus 1 C (30 F) at midnight.

London

As Big Ben chimes at the stroke of midnight in London, fireworks will be fired off from the London Eye ferris wheel and barges along the River Thames.
Those with one of the sold-out tickets or anyone viewing the display from farther away will not have to worry about bringing along brollies or heavy coats.
The temperature will be near 4 C (40 F) for the festivities with light winds and low-hanging clouds. The combination of the clouds and lack of wind to clear the smoke may make the fireworks display less vibrant than many may hope.

Rio de Janeiro

Copacabana Beach is the hot spot for New Year's Eve celebrations in Rio de Janeiro, where millions will gather to watch fireworks and dance to live music.
The weather will not add any more commotion to the festivities with dry conditions expected throughout Tuesday evening. Temperatures will be comfortable around 24-26 C (middle to upper 70s F) with light winds and a mostly clear sky.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong's famed New Year's Eve fireworks display will not be illuminating the city's skyline as 2020 begins. The city's tourism board canceled the spectacular show for the first time since 2007, citing fears of protests and public safety.
A new version of the city's nightly "A Symphony of Lights" laser show will replace the dazzling pyrotechnic display.
Rain-free weather is expected as hundreds of thousands of people gather at Victoria Harbour to witness the light show. Temperatures on Tuesday evening will be 16-18 C (lower to middle 60s F) with a breeze lowering AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures to 14-15 C (upper 50s F).
