At least 6 spectators injured after lightning strike at Tour Championship

By Adriana Navarro, AccuWeather staff writer

Several spectators were injured after lightning struck a tree at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon during the Tour Championship.
Atlanta police told the Associated Press at least six were injured when lightning struck a 60-foot pine tree, sending debris flying. The golf tournament's third round had been stalled for about 30 minutes in a weather delay due to dangerous weather when the lightning struck.
Atlanta Police spokesman James H. White III told the AP that five men and one female juvenile had been taking shelter under the tree, and all six had been injured when the lightning struck. White said all of them had been "alert, conscious and breathing" when they were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The tree stands near the 16th tee on the course, and images of it show a jagged scar of stripped bark running down its side.
