Worse than slowing travel and disrupting outdoor plans, thunderstorms can turn locally damaging across portions of the midwestern and eastern United States into Tuesday night.
The area at risk for locally severe storms will stretch from Iowa to southern New York state, central Pennsylvania, West Virginia and western Maryland.
While tree and power line damage from the storms may only hit a small fraction of the communities within this corridor, residents and travelers throughout the area should make sure to keep a close eye out for rapidly changing weather conditions throughout the day.
Any of the thunderstorms could be strong, if not severe, with flooding downpours, hail and damaging winds, according to AccuWeather

Thunderstorms can produce potentially deadly lightning strikes even if a severe weather warning is not in place. Those outside are reminded to seek shelter indoors at the first rumble of thunder.

The MLB game between the Tigers and White Sox at Chicago could experience delays.
The storms can spell trouble for those getting a jump start on July Fourth travel.
Motorists can face sudden reductions in visibility and a heightened risk of hydroplaning while traveling at highway speeds along interstates 55, 69, 75, 80 and 90.
Airline passengers at the major hubs of Chicago and Detroit may spend more time at the airport than originally planned due to delays.
Heat and humidity building back into the mid-Atlantic can also help to fuel locally heavy and gusty storms into portions of southwestern New York, Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.
Another area where storms can turn severe on Tuesday is across portions of Montana, Wyoming and the northern Plains.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to add headaches for travelers across the Central states on Wednesday, the busiest travel day for people hitting the road ahead of July Fourth.
