Areas from Melbourne to Brisbane will be at risk for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the coming days as a cold front slices across southeastern Australia.
Melbourne will be the first area to be impacted as showers and thunderstorms move into the area Friday afternoon followed by a period of rain Friday night.
A few showers and strong winds are expected on Saturday as much cooler air rushes into southern Victoria.
A high temperature near 26 C (78 F) on Friday will be replaced by a high of only 15 C (59 F) on Saturday.
Thunderstorms will also be a concern in Canberra, where a storm can arrive as early as Friday afternoon with downpours expected Friday night.
Gusty winds accompanied by much cooler air are expected for Saturday, with a high temperature of only 14 C (57 F).
As the front progresses northward, it will interact with moisture from former Tropical Cyclone Trevor, increasing the risk for flooding from Sydney to Brisbane.
A warm Friday is expected in Sydney, with partial sunshine and a high near 27 C (81 F).
Rain and thunderstorms will arrive Friday night, bringing the risk for urban flooding. Thunderstorms will be capable of producing locally damaging winds and hail.
Rain will linger into Saturday morning, with clouds yielding to some afternoon sunshine.
A high temperature of 24 C (75 F) is expected on Saturday with much lower humidity and gusty winds.

The combination of thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to some travel disruptions from Sydney northward to Brisbane.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms will hold off until Saturday in Brisbane, when there will be the risk for gusty thunderstorms.
Little change in temperature is expected from Friday to Monday in Brisbane, with a daily high temperature of 26-28 C (78-82 F).
