After a dry weekend, a new storm is expected to return downpours and thunderstorms to northern India to close out February.
The latest in the storms to track in from the Middle East is expected to cause showers and thunderstorms across parts of northern India by the end of Monday.
Rain and thunderstorms may further increase in coverage across areas from Punjab and the National Capital Region (NCR) to West Bengal and northeastern India on Tuesday.
The steadiest rain should unfold east of the areas hit by deadly flooding in Pakistan.
The wet weather may then push eastward from Lucknow to Patna, Kolkata and Guwahati for the final two days of February as drier air gradually works in from the northwest.
AccuWeather meteorologists are monitoring the potential for the downpours to trigger flash flooding.
Latest indications point toward the threat being greatest in the foothills of the mountains and across eastern and northeastern India, as well as neighboring parts of Bangladesh.
Mudslides can be triggered in the higher terrain, below where snow will blast the peaks.
The heavy snow in the mountains can raise the risk of avalanches.

Some of the thunderstorms can produce hail and strong winds, potentially leading to scenes that unfolded in the NCR earlier this month.
Regardless of any hail or flash flooding, there can be travel disruptions.
Residents are also reminded to seek shelter as soon as thunder is heard to avoid being struck by lightning.
The main advantage to the wet weather will be to help bring a reprieve from the poor air quality encompassing northern India.
