Holiday shopping plans and festivities can be disrupted as a period of snow or icy mix is anticipated to cause slick travel from northern France to Germany into Sunday.
Aband of snow and/or icy mix will sweep eastward across northern mainland Europe through Sunday.
The risk for the slick conditions will spread to Hamburg and Munich, Germany, on Sunday.
The wintry weather may occur for only a few hours in any one location, but that can be enough time to create slippery conditions.
A tour bus traveling from Switzerland to Germany crashed on a snowy road on Sunday morning, killing one person and leaving 44 others injured, according to the Associated Press.
Untreated sidewalks and roads can be slick even for an hour or two after temperatures rise above freezing due to cold stored up in the pavement. Rail and air travel can also be disrupted.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys is expecting snowfall to generally be held to a coating to 5 cm (2 inches). That alone can create slippery conditions but can provide some traction for motorists when freezing rain or drizzle follows.
A thin layer of ice is much more dangerous to walk or travel on than a coating of snow.

Residents may want to adjust plans to attend Christmas markets or other holiday festivities.
Snow and ice are in store for Luxembourg City on Saturday night, but anyone heading out early on Sunday should remain vigilant for untreated surfaces to remain slippery until temperatures climb above freezing.
The band of snow and ice is anticipated to diminish before reaching Berlin and points eastward.

Despite the hazards threatening residents and travelers, the wintry weather this weekend will mark the leading edge of a push of milder air that will bring temperatures back to more seasonable levels for next week.
