Showers may dampen yet another NASCAR weekend at Michigan International Speedway

Brooklyn, Michigan, home to Michigan International Speedway, will be on the edge of wet weather set to target the northeastern United States.
NASCAR activities this weekend include the Camping World Truck Series Corrigan Oil 200 and the Monster Energy Cup Series Consumers Energy 400.
The final event of the evening will be the stock car race, scheduled on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

While the weekend will be far from a washout, pesky showers and thunderstorms will riddle parts of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
"Into Sunday, there is a chance for a locally heavy, gusty storm around the racetrack," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson.

Fans attending the races this weekend at Brooklyn can download the free AccuWeather app to keep up to date with the prospects of rain and any thunderstorms in the vicinity.
"The weather pattern on Sunday seems less likely to support a thunderstorm but could bring more cloud cover, a couple of showers and perhaps lower temperatures," Anderson said.
Unlike at last week's road course at Watkins Glen, New York, the faster speeds on the oval track at Michigan will not allow rain tires to be used if wet weather comes calling.
A shower prompted the use of rain tires last Saturday at Watkins Glen.

Slick tires are used at Michigan.
A light rain shower that fails to wet the ground completely may bring out a caution flag, while a downpour would bring racing to a halt at Michigan Motor Speedway.
The same weather pattern may bring thundershowers and the need for crews to switch to rain tires and wiper blades on the road course track. Rain made for an interesting Xfinity Series race at Mid-Ohio in Aug. 2016.
