Buildings were damaged in an eastern Tennessee town during severe weather late Thursday afternoon.

A tornado-warned storm passed through Pleasant Hill, Tennessee, in Cumberland County shortly after 4 p.m. CDT. The storm produced a tornado that would later be rated EF0 intensity with winds of 80 mph.

"There has been some minor damage reported to the school and the community center," Chris Cox, with the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, told weather.com Thursday evening. "And there are quite a few trees down in that area."

A nursing home nearby was also damaged, according to the National Weather Service.

Cox said there were some minor injuries, but no reports of anyone being transported to the hospital.

School was out for the day, but students that were still in the school took shelter, according to WBIR.com. The heaviest damage was to the school's gymnasium.

Students who were getting onto buses were led back inside by a school resource officer to keep them safe, WVLT-TV reported.

A pair of severe thunderstorms moved through the area. One of them damaged the roof of the school. Another possible tornado was recorded on video near Sunbright, Tennessee. Trees were downed in both locations. Half-dollar size hail was also reported in Sunbright.

"The storms were a part of a large low pressure system moving through the Midwest and Tennessee Valley," said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Belles. At least one other tornado was reported on Wednesday with this system, in Louisiana.

Severe thunderstorms are increasingly common across the eastern two-thirds of the country in April as subtropical air spills northward from the Gulf of Mexico and clashes with the jet stream.
