Severe storms to rumble across 1,000-mile stretch of eastern US into Tuesday night

By Brandon Buckingham, AccuWeather Meteorologist

The storm system responsible for triggering severe weather across the Midwest Monday and Monday night will continue to bring a threat for disruptive storms into Tuesday night from parts of the South to the mid-Atlantic coast.
Thunderstorms will be capable of tapping into extremely moist and unstable air as they slice southeastward.

Motorists could face travel hazards such as reduced visibility, hydroplaning and flooded roads as storms track through.
The thunderstorm threat will largely come to an end in the mid-Atlantic during the evening hours as storms are expected to diminish and track off the Atlantic coast.
Across the Tennessee Valley, some storms may be able to continue to produce gusty winds and torrential downpours into the overnight hours. Northern Mississippi and Alabama may even have to deal with a thunderstorm or two during this time.
While severe thunderstorms are expected to stay south of the Mason-Dixon Line, showers and locally drenching thunderstorms will extend northward to the eastern Great Lakes and part of northern New England.

This includes a long stretch of the Interstate 80 and I-81 corridors.
Although the heavy rain could cause travel disruptions and localized flooding, it will be beneficial to neighborhoods where lawns have started to turn brown in recent weeks.
