The heat that built across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic over the weekend will peak in many areas on Monday before thunderstorms bring relief to some locations beginning Tuesday.
Cities along and near Interstate 95 will see temperatures soar to near-record levels on Monday from Washington, D.C., to Boston.
Temperatures will soar past 90 degrees Fahrenheit by the early afternoon with the hottest areas seeing temperatures top out in the upper 90s.

Intense heat will also be found from the eastern Ohio Valley into Pennsylvania and interior New England.
Widespread temperatures near or above 90 F are expected from Cleveland to Syracuse, New York, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
High levels of humidity will only make it feel hotter across the region as AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures climb above 100 F.

Big changes are on the way as a cold front will press southward across the Northeast from Monday night into Wednesday and produce showers and thunderstorms.
These storms will also bring an end to the near-record heat as both temperatures and humidity will fall dramatically in the wake of the storms.
Some of the storms will contain strong winds and downpours as they move across northern New England Monday afternoon into Monday.
NE Records 6/17

A southward shift will bring the threat for showers and thunderstorms to Pittsburgh, New York City and Boston by late Monday night.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will dampen the day and create slower travel from Ohio to northern Virginia and southern New England on Tuesday.
Cooler air will reach areas from northern Ohio to southern New England while one more day of heat and humidity is expected from Baltimore to New York City with high temperatures near 90 F.
NE Relief 6/17

More seasonable air will be found throughout all of the Northeast on Wednesday with high temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to the lower 80s along with mostly dry weather.
This more seasonable and less humid weather is expected to continue across the Northeast into late week.
The storms responsible for the relief across the Northeast will stall over the mid-Atlantic in areas from Richmond, Virginia, to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and Thursday.
These storms will shave a few degrees off the expected high temperatures; however, it will remain quite warm and humid.
Drier and less humid weather may make a brief appearance in the mid-Atlantic by late in the week.
